Sneak Peak: More From Asako Miyashita

In this course, leading Japanese lifestyle expert and registered dietitian nutritionist Asako Miyashita will teach you a complete Japanese approach to eating and living well to slow aging and enhance overall well-being
Here’s what she has to say about these unique Japanese lifestyle practices:
DailyOM: What inspired you to create this course?
Asako: I wanted to create this course to teach about food and nutrition, but I also wanted to share body care insights that students can try daily to improve how they look and feel. At the beginning of the course, I introduce what the Japanese have been eating for decades and why the foods can lead to longevity. I used Japanese books from about 35 years ago, as well as interviews from my own family and community who are well over their 80s and 90s and still thriving.
DailyOM: What are two secrets to Japanese longevity you teach in the course?
There are many secrets to living a long life, and one of them is food intake. For example, if I enjoy a burger with French fries one night, I will cook more vegetables with less oil and do some exercise for the rest of the week to balance and adjust my health. I don’t restrict myself, and I believe this is key to maintaining my own health.
Another thing so many healthy Japanese seniors have in common is that they are not picky eaters, which opens food choices for them. I will focus on nutrition, food, and health in this course, and share a variety of simple and delicious recipes that can help improve your health. But I also believe how we manage our overall lifestyle affects our lifespan. That is why I include Japanese ways for daily care for our body.
